Machete!
In case you didn’t know, I’m a huge fan of the Spy Kids series, so I am very excited to report that it looks like Machete, a spin-off centered around Danny Trejo’s fantastic titular character, is actually going to happen. It’s labeled as a straight-to-video release right now, but with a tagline like “They Fucked With The Wrong Mexican!” who really cares? There was a trailer for Machete at the beginning of the recent Rodriguez-Tarantino collaboration Grindhouse, but it appeared, like the trailers wedged between the two campy features, to be fake, a preview for a movie that would never be. Apparently that was not the case. But judging by the audience response to the trailer, I think Rodriguez would be a fool to eschew theatrical release. People were more enthusiastic about that brief trailer than they were about most of Grindhouse, and that’s saying a lot.Regardless, Danny Trejo is a god, and I for one cannot wait to see this motherfucker.
