Short List: The 10 best horror movies of the last decade
I’m a big horror movie buff so it’s hard to decide on just ten movies, but these are the ones that have most stuck in my mind. Presenting my top ten horror film picks of the past ten years!

Thanks I will check out those movies. I just saw Audition last night, good stuff! And weird. I’d seen part of it in school and it was very different from what I expected.
What and where is Cinemaggedon?
Slither was way underrated and Nathan Fillion needs to be in everything.
As for J Horror, the Chan-Wook’s Vengeance Trilogy is fantastic (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Lady Vengeance) and Miike’s films are pretty universally nuts. Check out Audition or Visitor Q. His Master of Horror episode (Imprint) is pretty decent too.
And Argento hasn’t made a good movie since “Opera” anyway so there’s that.

One last thought…upon reading this again, I realized that Mother of Tears probably isn’t Argento’s best work in the last decade, but I liked it because:
a) Finally Argento wrapped up the Three Mothers series (though now he seems to be reopening it with a remake of Suspiria), and…
b) I read the script before Mother of Tears was made and/or distributed, for a film studio internship, and I thought that it was uncanny how much what was on the page translated to the screen. It was like deja vu watching it. So maybe I’m biased.
Well I’m either getting Hatchet the horror movie or a filmic adaptation of the great wilderness survival young adult book….if only that existed.
Dude, you’re right. Jeepers Creepers did start better than it ended. What did you think of the sequel? I heard that the first movie was inspired by “Duel” and the second by Hitchcock’s “Lifeboat.”
I haven’t heard of Hatchet, but I’ll look for it! And I considered Planet Terror, but disregarded it because it was short and kinda comedic…which doesn’t make sense because then I added Shaun of the Dead, which is highly comedic. Honorable mention for Planet Terror! P.S. What did you think about Slither?
As for J Horror, I have to admit I haven’t watched a lot of it. I really liked Battle Royale (if you can call that horror…it’s more satire in my opinion), and I think I might have seen the original Ringu/The Ring. But I never saw Ishii the Killer or any of those classics. What are a couple of good films to start with for someone who’s unfamiliar with these directors?
The first act of “Jeepers Creepers” is INCREDIBLE, but man, does it fall apart after that. Kudos on “Let the Right One In” though!
The last half of “Hatchet” is decent (if you can find it), and I’d throw “Planet Terror” in there for good measure. And there’s a bunch of great J-Horror that might be included too. Takeshi Miike and Park Chan-wook films, for example.
